On this Geology Walk our expert guides from Princeton University’s Department of Geosciences will show how they are keeping an eye on weather and soil conditions at Herrontown Woods. The Department has set up a solar-powered Arable Mark 2 weather station to track incoming and reflected solar radiation, meteorological variables such as temperature, pressure, and precipitation, and a Sentek soil probe that measures soil temperature, salinity and soil moisture. An engaging and generally hands on experience, you will also be delighted on this walk as you learn about the fascinating characteristics of the soil and rocks we walk by and on everyday.

'Walk with Nature' is a new series of expert-guided, paid walks designed to introduce the community to the many wonders of Herrontown Woods throughout the seasons. This year, in addition to the Spring Natives Walk, we plan to offer a Historical Walk, Geology Walk, a Dragonfly Walk, and a few others — so check our calendar or sign up for email updates to stay in the know. And no worries: it isn't meant to be a master class, but a gentle and easy way for expert researchers and enthusiasts to share their knowledge and help you to get to know a little more about what one can see walking through the woods. All proceeds go to the stewardship of Herrontown Woods. We’ll See You in the ‘Woods!
